ORANGE SKY CONFIRMED TO ROCK WITH KING’S X, IN SUPPORT OF LATEST RELEASE, ‘DAT IZ VOODOO’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

ORANGE SKY CONFIRMED TO ROCK WITH KING’S X, IN SUPPORT OF LATEST RELEASE, ‘DAT IZ VOODOO’

Port of Spain, Trinidad may not be the first city music fans think of when the discussion of ‘hot rockspots’ comes up. But if the sophomore effort from Orange Sky, ‘Dat Iz Voodoo,’ is a representation of the local talent, it may soon join the likes of New York, Seattle, and London, as the group (which is comprised of singer/lead guitarist Nigel Rojas, rhythm guitarist Joel Beazer, bassist Nicholas Rojas, keyboardist Richard Hall, and drummer Obasi Springer) will be opening up a string of Texas dates with metal legends King’s X. “We have always loved King’s X, some of us since the early ’90s,” says Rojas. “We did one opening slot for them last year, in Kentucky, and got to meet Doug and the guys personally. They put on an incredible live show and we are honored to be able to share the stage with them.”

The style that Orange Sky specialize in is quite varied…yet rocking. Perhaps a fan once gave the group the highest compliment, by gushing, “You guys sound and perform like if the Wailers and Black Sabbath had a baby.” “I call our sound ‘rock and roll’,” says Nigel. “We emulate everything – hard rock, soft rock, punk, reggae, and metal, so I think the term rock and roll covers all these styles, and does not create an expectation from the potential listener of us being too metal, too reggae, too hard, or too soft. Our overall style offers all these soundscapes, colors, and emotions.”

‘Dat Iz Voodoo,’ released via StarCity Records, represents a rebirth of sorts for Orange Sky, and proves that the group’s critically acclaimed debut, 2006’s ‘Upstairs,’ was no fluke. Case in point, the album-opening riff monger “Yesterdays and Tomorrows,” the thrashy “Psycho World,” the industrial-strength reggae-rock of “Is There Anybody There?” (which is a barely recognizable cover of a Scorpions song), and the crunching funk-metal riffs of “Dark Room.” But there is one song specifically that stands out for Nigel. “I would say ‘Alone,’ because it is a blast from the past – we all like to think of it as a song we could share on the radio.” A dozen songs in all, guaranteed to get fists pumping and moshpits swirling – with a couple of lighters-in-the-air/arm-around-your-girl moments in between.

And while ‘Dat Iz Voodoo’ is a fine stylistic showcase for the group, the quintet promises fans that they will take it to the next level on the album’s ensuing tour. “Orange Sky live is one hell of a bad ass, fist pumping, heart melting, hilarious, thought provoking assault on the nervous system! Within an hour, our show will turn everyone exposed to us into our new friends and future Orange Sky seed sowers. Sounds arrogant? Not intended, just what we know what we are capable of – ask anyone who has been there. We seriously rock!”

From the Road: End of the Summer ‘08 Tour

Hi guys, as we wind closer to the end of the first leg of this tour, I just have to say once again ….your support has been phenomenal. After a lengthy journey from Alabama to South Carolina, we were all a pretty drained physically from the gig the night before and emotionally from the loss of friends and relatives during this past week. A lot of folks think it’s all fun & games on the road but it’s not. Yes there is a great deal to enjoy and experience but there’s also that element of wonder when you’re away from your kin and not sure what each day will bring .We’re very grateful to have a very supportive and nurturing team behind us and the best fans in the world. We’ll continue to deliver the best way we know how ……….in song and in spirit. Bless you all and see you on the road. …Rich

Hey guys …just checking in to say a great big thank you to all the amazing people we’ve met along the way at the shows. Your support has been incredible and means a great deal to us. Special thanks to our friends in the Street Teams across the States ….like Matt & Sharon Holmes, Mike & Dorothy Howard , Jessie in Indianapolis, Stephen in New York……………you’re the best.

We’re heading to South Carolina to play at Ground Zero with the awesome ‘Ghost in The Machine’ and others.
If any of you are in the area…..come on down and hang out with us…..Trini style……………..all the best to you all…………..Rich

Ground Zero! (Spartanburg, SC)
Thanks to all the people that checked out the band and the staff and promoters that made it all possible. It was fucking awesome!! The set went really well and the crowd enjoyed and raved with us till the very end. It was so amazing to meet new people and watch them turn them into Orange Sky acolytes. lol
To everyone that was a part of the set at Ground Zero…cheers motherfuckers!
See you next time the band comes to South Carolina.

Good vibes!!
Orange Sky

One of the songs on our New album dat Iz Voodoo and on our touring set list every night is The Scorpions “Is there anybody there?”. The response for the song has been fantastic every night, and it is such a rush to be playing it, as it a song that is deeply rooted in this band’s subconscious, from a band that was and is so powerful and influential to so many people.

Well, what I am getting at is , as you know we would be finishing this leg of our 2008 US tour, very soon ,(sniff sniff wiping tears), but we would be back up in October to continue our journey in pursuit of the ever illusive dream of rising to the Top and conquering untouched soil.

As we wind down this summer tour, we are consoled and distracted by the fact that we are going home to be with our friends families and loved ones, who we miss on the road and deserve all our love for their unconditional support .

Also we are extremely excited to be Opening for “The Scorpions ” on September 23rd at home in Trinidad, it is always a dream to open and share the stage with a Band that we always admired, the same for Yngwie Malmsteen who we did 44 cities across the US with, also Dokken, Buckcherry, Blue Oyster Cult, Kansas, Hatebreed, Damien and Stephen Marley, Steel Pulse and quite a few more, this is going to be awesome!! Thank you Joey Sabeeney our local manager at home, for taking the local /foreign Concert promotion industry by the Balls, and providing world Class concert experiences for the people of our region.

SCORPIONS FEVER !!!!!!!
dEATH IS bIRTH

This is our third US tour, and we feel very lucky to be here. There is a strange coincidence that every time that we tour someone dies in our families, I know that it may sound morbid, and a tasteless subject, but it is true, let me explain…………..On the first tour Nigel and Nico’s Grandmother died, on the second Tour our Beautiful Uncle Andrew passed, and on this our third tour Dion’s Granddad died in the first week, and just yesterday Nigel and Nico’s grandfather Emilio Passed in Venezuela.

We are human and it is Ok to feel sad when we know that we would miss someone, but we should celebrate death as a birth, let me explain…
When we are in the womb of our mother for nine months, that is the only world that we know, so when nine months is up after being so comfortable in that place, to be born is like a death for the baby. The light at the end of the tunnel, as the mother parts her thighs. That baby is born crying and afraid from this death like experience, not knowing, that everybody that loves it and anticipated its coming, are all there waiting to give it love and watch him/her grow.

When we die we are being born again into the spirit world where all our ancestors, loved ones, or anyone that was inspiring to us in this temporary life, are waiting to once again give us love, love does not go away when the flesh dies,

DEATH IS BIRTH!!!!!!!

Hurricane blues

Hey people!!
I know that it has been a while since we put anything up, it is not because we forgot about those of you who want to be kept updated on our tour vibes on a day to day basis, we appreciate all the support and overwhelming love that we are receiving here on this US tour.

Our New Orleans show and 4 day break in the big easy was canceled because of hurricane Gustav, what a name for a hurricane eh?? Gustav, it sounds like a really pissed off Mexican dude, lol! Don’t cross Gustav!! lol We seriously got the HURRICANE BLUES.

Anyway we diverted to Atlanta where we spent a few days in the City, it was nice to be staying in the city for the first time as we usually stay in Mount Zion, it is summer now, and we are totally understanding why the rappers call it HOTLANTA!

We just slammed The Nick in Birmingham Alabama last night, and I am sure we made many new friends, planted some seeds, Mission accomplished!

As we write this we are on our way to South Carolina where we would be playing at Ground Zero in Spartanburg at midnight so we have a seven hour drive ahead, and we are already two hours deep into that with Dion at the wheel.

We are looking forward to playing at Budda’s in Virgina tomorrow, and looking forward to hanging out with Rocky and Crew, also the guys from Sinn and Sindicate who are two Bad Ass Virginia bands.

We’ll let you know how those shows go in a few days, so stay in tune with us, we love you and cherish your support and interest, our music and that connection that we make with you is what we live and strive for, be safe people.

Irie!!

Mayhem Dreams Come True

Things have a way of turning themselves around in the weirdest ways and great things often come in strange packages.

How were we to know or even guess that after being detained by the U.S immigration on the Buffalo/Canadian border for 5 HOURS, after accidentally attempting to cross the peace bridge in buffalo towards Canada, that we would be given the gift of any metal head’s dream. Let me now explain.

On our way back into the hotel, the Hyatt in Buffalo, we observed at least ten tour buses surrounding our hotel. We were curious but distracted and were heading to our respected rooms to chill out after the immigration ordeal. Upon reaching the elevator section of the hotel there was one immediately available being held open by a tall strong dude and his beautiful daughter no more than 5 years old. We declined entering being six of us and how we look as a team to give the man and his daughter their space to go to their room, the man insisted that we all enter the elevator, at that time we accepted gratefully and entered.

At that time the big dude introduced us to his daughter and asked if we were a band to which we agreed and explained that we would be performing in Buffalo 2 days later. The man then introduced himself as John Reece the owner and chief manager of the Metal Mayhem Festival (also the Taste of Chaos tour, Vans Warped Tour, etc). He then, with a big smile on his face, invited us to be his special guests (all access) at final day of the metal mayhem festival on the following day of which the headliners were Slipknot, Disturbed, Mastodon, Dragonforce, Machinehead etc. We tearfully accepted and as he left the elevator we started jumping around like some deranged Negros in absolute shock and ecstasy.

We spent the rest of the day hanging around the hotel lobby/bar with the likes of Mastodon, Disturbed, Slipknot and the X games Metal Militia. When we retired to our rooms, just after midnight to catch some rest for the big day to follow, we were awoken by the sounds of Dragonforce and company stumbling though the corridors on our floor and Nigel, being awaken by Z.p (lead singer from Dragonforce) and entourage jumping on Nigel’s bed insisting that we wake to fuck up to have a drink and smoke. Needless to say, we were honoured and happy to share just over an hour in our room talking shit and burning some spliffs. At just about 4 am they left to retire to their rooms and bus (Orange Sky’s best rock and roll moment #5).

The following day we woke up, headed to the festival, were greeted with all access VIP passes and were lead straight to the main stage/backstage area where we intermingled with members of all the bands and their families including Slipknot unmasked. We were given dinner where we sat and ate with the band members and their families in a special reserved catering section. All this before and incredible live concert experience with the likes of our metal heroes that we have admired all these years from a distance and on that day, up close and in person. This was one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences any metal head could want, but, for an aspiring rock band from the Caribbean, even more so. The concert went off with great explosivity and didn’t disappoint for a second. The line up was Mastodon into Dragonforce (who thanked us from the stage, giving us full devil horns then coming into the crowd to hang with us afterward to look at Disturbed and Slipknot (orange sky best rock and roll moment #7). We could not have asked for a better rock and roll experience on this tour and like to send love respect and thanks to mister John Reece for making six guys from the Caribbean metal dreams come true.

Representing the Sufferers of the Blasphemous Politics

Hey People!!

Its been almost twenty four months since our last tour, and we are dying to get on the road again to see your faces and feel your vibes. We did a label change and that took some time to organize legally, but we were not flat on our asses, and thanks to our new label, we would be releasing our new album “Dat IZ Voodoo“across the US soon, so we are coming to your City and Town to Bring you some Orange Sky Vibrations. Thanks to all of you who kept in tune and in touch, to the rest of you who wondered what ever happened to those guys who Tore down the house in 2006, WE ARE BACK!!!!!

Representing the Sufferers of the blasphemous Politics, and Backward shitstem of the Third World, our beautiful island is in Turmoil, and for many food and water is a daily lottery, Hospitals are overcrowded so patients sleep in chairs, people being evicted from their galvanize, and wooden shacks, brother killing brother over a plate of rice and beans, four and five murders a day via gunshot or Blade.

Our government really cares.

To show how much they care, the PNM Government built a One hundred and eighty million dollar palace for the Prime minister to sleep in and for his ministers and their wives to frolic, they all took a raise in salaries as government ministers. To show they are really in sympathy with the poverty dwelling majority of our society, the government makes a deposit on a eighty million Bomardiair Luxury Jet AirPlane (Like Jay Z and Donald trump own), How sweet!! You shouldn’t have!! How thought full of you Mr Prime minister, i know that you by your overall and most recent actions and purchases for the luxury of you and your Government, that we are in really good hands, and everything is Fine and dandy in Our land. Thanks for everything. Maybe a 100 Ft luxury Sea craft with Heli Port would show us even more how much you love the poor and down trodden, the working class and those many amongst us, whose only ambition is to put a hot meal into the stomaches of their children.

Sorry to rant people! but this is the reality for many on our Island Paradise, and our new album was a way to vent, and expose some of this, but it is not entirely a bunch of political mumbo jumbo, we have a few other vibes on there as well, and a cover of the Scorpions’ “Is there Anybody There?” We’ll tell you how to get a copy, and dig it soon, we’ll be there soon as well.

We Love You All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This Is the Dawn Of The living Dread!!!!

Niceful Vibes ,

Nigel

Niceness!!

Well for fuck’s sake!….. I suppose it’s about damn time that we should hit the road again lol. When news of possibly touring again graced our ears you could cut the excitement with a knife. I must say it’s amazing that after such a seemingly forever like absence from the road that we are granted this intimacy with music lovers once again.

Even though we’ve seemed to stray away from the center of it all, people that were into the band from our previous touring attempts can rest assured that the down time time did nothing to dull our approach. Still gonna bring it like like we did, still gonna play the songs you/we love, still gonna shatter the air with some Orange Sky music in your town verrrrry soon. I hope/expect everyone come out to the shows when they are announced and I hope you guys/girls like the new stuff here on MySpace from our soon to be released CD ‘Dat iz Voodoo’. Look for more soon, and a way for you to get an advanced promo copy for being such amazing fans.

The team has been working very hard to try to get the band back on the stage and we’ve been rehearsing like fucking animals so expect a kickass show next time we hit your neighborhood.

Until next time.

cheers.
